Free foreign language courses

Each summer term the Faculty of Philology runs free courses of English, German, Italian, French and Russian, as well as a Serbian for foreigners course. These courses last three months, from late February or early March to the end of May, with classes held twice a week.

The courses are taught by senior students of the respective departments of the Faculty of Philology, as part of the project of foreign language teaching practicums. While teaching the courses, students, or teacher-trainees, meet the practicum requirement and gain the valuable experience they will need as in-service teachers. They prepare and conduct classes, and throughout the process they are supervised by the professors and teaching assistants in charge of the practicums.

Prospective course participants register in January. In February, the teachers and teacher-trainees test those who registered for the courses and prepare for the classes. Based on candidates’ entrance test results and language proficiency, they are grouped according to level, corresponding to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages division into levels A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2. Each group has between 10 and 15 participants at the most, who are taught using the newest teaching methods.

Upon the completion of the courses, the participants are tested and the successful candidates issued a course completion certificate by the Faculty, confirming they attended the course and passed the exam. The courses are offered to students, faculty and other personnel of the University of Banja Luka.
